Alliance for Retired Americans leader Richard Fiesta released the following statement on the chaos created by the Trump Administration at the Social Security Administration (SSA) last night:
“Every American should be alarmed that Elon Musk’s untrained minions have been given access to the Social Security databases and computer systems. This is an unprecedented action that puts our financial security at risk. Seniors who paid for the Social Security benefits they have earned over a lifetime should not have to worry about whether their benefits will be paid or whether their data will be stolen or abused.
“Donald Trump has given Elon Musk and his DOGE team access to our lifetime work history and earnings records. They also have banking and health information for every retiree, survivor, and person with a disability.
“Almost as troubling is Musk’s latest disinformation campaign. He is shamelessly spreading fake news and making unfounded allegations of widespread Social Security ‘fraud.’
“If the Trump Administration really wants to detect fraud or increase efficiency, it would provide the needed resources to the SSA workforce which is at an all-time low in staff and an all-time high in beneficiaries.
“We remain deeply suspicious about the so-called DOGE and Elon Musk in particular. For 89 years Social Security has endured repeated attempts by Republicans to cut benefits or otherwise end the program. We will not let Elon Musk be the one who finally succeeds.”
