Retirees Deeply Concerned Following Senate Confirmation of Frank Bisignano as SSA Commissioner

The following statement was issued by Richard Fiesta, Executive Director of the Alliance for Retired Americans, in response to the U.S. Senate’s vote to confirm Frank Bisignano as Commissioner of the Social Security Administration:

“Today’s Senate vote to confirm Frank Bisignano as Commissioner of the Social Security Administration is deeply troubling to millions of current and future retirees who rely on the guaranteed benefits they paid for and earned through a lifetime of work.

“Mr. Bisignano’s testimony before the Senate, along with his long career in the finance and tech sectors, provides no reassurance that he understands — let alone prioritizes — the needs of older and disabled Americans. We remain alarmed by the risk that he will support privatization schemes or replace essential SSA workers with AI systems, which could undermine the quality and accessibility of services.

“Social Security is a solemn promise between every American worker and the government. Our 4.4 million members will be watching his actions closely and demand that he put the needs of beneficiaries and workers first.”
