Cites His Commitment to Protecting and Increasing Earned Social Security and Medicare Benefits
Columbus – Members of the Alliance for Retired Americans proudly announced their endorsement of Senator Sherrod Brown for reelection to the U.S. Senate from Ohio today. The Alliance is a grassroots advocacy organization with more than 293,000 members in Ohio, and 4.4 million nationwide.
“Sen. Brown has already proven as a member of the U.S. Senate that he will look out for older Ohioans in the U.S. Senate. He has earned a perfect lifetime score of 100% in the Alliance’s annual Congressional Voting Record,” said Norm Wernet, President of the Ohio Alliance. “We trust him to work to strengthen and increase our hard earned Social Security and Medicare benefits. He knows that 2.4 million Ohioans rely on Social Security benefits every month. Once reelected, Sherrod will continue the fight for our earned benefits for current and future generations.”
In contrast, Bernie Moreno is out of touch with older Ohioans, supporting tax cuts for billionaires and corporations but not an increase in Social Security benefits.
Sen. Brown also successfully led the fight to save millions of union workers’ and retirees’ pensions. His efforts led to passage of the Butch Lewis Act as part of the American Rescue Plan in 2021. As a result, 2 to 3 million workers’ pension plans now are solvent and able to pay full benefits through at least 2051.
““Fighting for the Dignity of Work means making sure hard work pays off for everyone and every Ohioan receives the retirement benefits they earned,” said Senator Brown. “I’m proud to have the support of the Ohio Alliance for Retired Americans as we continue our work to protect Social Security, Medicare, and Ohioans’ hard-earned retirement benefits.”
Mr. Wernet also praised Sen. Brown’s vote for legislation to lower drug costs by requiring Medicare to negotiate lower drug prices for seniors; cap out-of-pocket drug costs at $2,000 a year; cap insulin copays at $35 per month; and make necessary vaccines free for all Medicare beneficiaries. Moreno does not support the legislation.
“The stakes couldn’t be higher for seniors like me. We need Sherrod Brown in the Senate fighting against any Republican plan to cut Social Security and Medicare,” added Wernet.
