Alliance for Retired Americans Responds to DOJ Revelation That DOGE Disclosed Americans’ Personal Data Held by the SSA

Statement of Richard Fiesta, Executive Director of the Alliance for Retired Americans, regarding the U.S. Department of Justice’s court filing admitting that DOGE team members improperly shared sensitive, personally identifying data held by the Social Security Administration. The Alliance, together with AFSCME and AFT, sued the SSA in February 2025 to protect Americans’ personal information.

“Nearly a year ago, the Alliance went to court to protect the sensitive personal, medical, and financial data the Social Security Administration is entrusted with by virtually every American. Now, the Department of Justice has admitted that DOGE improperly shared that data—confirming that our concerns were not hypothetical, but real and well-founded.

“This is a serious breach of public trust. Millions of retirees, workers, and families rely on the Social Security Administration to safeguard their most private information. We will continue to press for full transparency, accountability, and concrete safeguards to ensure that no one’s Social Security data is ever put at risk again.”
